My whole life, I’ve kind of felt like I was on a diet.
There’ve been at least three times previously in my life where I’ve lost significant amounts of weight. But I always put it back on.
Then in April of ‘07, I realized I weighed 217. I remember going onto a Web site ... where you put in your height and weight. It told me that I was obese.
I never considered myself obese. I’d always thought the problem was everybody else. You reach that moment where you realize, the problem’s looking at me in the mirror.
So, I just started eating less. I did switch from the treadmill to playing tennis. But I’d always exercised.
Whenever we talked about obesity, we talked about getting more exercise and being more active. My own personal story had proven to me that, yeah, exercise is important but it was really about what you eat and how much you eat. If you’re not really serious about those two areas of your life, then you’re not really serious about obesity.
