Ashley Paris comes from a big family.
It’s big in number and in size.
The Oklahoma forward is one of six children, all of whom are 6-foot-3 or taller and take at least a bit after their father. Bubba Paris is best known for being one of the first 300-pound offensive linemen in the NFL.
This past off-season, Ashley Paris decided to take those genetics and refine them. She changed her diet and upped her exercise.
"I did a ton of running,” she said. "A ton of cardio.”
In the process, Paris transformed her body, trimming 25 pounds and sculpting her 6-foot-3 frame. Her face is thinner, her body leaner.
It’s paying off on the court. Paris is averaging a double-double this season, 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, and she is leading the team in minutes played per game.
Not even point guard Danielle Robinson is playing more than Paris.
"I’m still a big girl,” she said a couple months back at Big 12 media day. "I’m still big, and I’m still strong.”
Turns out, she’s strong in body and in mind.
