Award-winning sportscasters Al Michaels and Bob Costas will work together for the first time Friday night, calling the New York Mets at San Francisco Giants game at 9 p.m. for MLB Network (Cox channels 264 and 725).

It will be the first baseball broadcast since 1995 for Michaels, who was ABC's lead baseball broadcaster when an earthquake struck the 1989 World Series in San Francisco.

MLB Network President Tony Petitti said the pairing was Costas' idea.

“We thought it would be a great thing for baseball fans to have Al back doing baseball,” he said.

The duo also will make appearances on the Mets' and Giants' local broadcasts, with Mets broadcasters Gary Cohen and Ron Darling and Giants announcers Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow moving over to MLB Network during those spots.

Short takes
