Sports media notebook: ESPN to air Connecticut-Michigan State basketball game from airport hangar in Germany

Connecticut and Michigan State will take part in the first regular-season men's college basketball game held overseas — the Sears Armed Forces Classic at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, at 5 p.m. Friday.

Connecticut and Michigan State will take part in the first regular-season men's college basketball game held overseas — the Sears Armed Forces Classic at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, at 5 p.m. Friday. The game will be played in a C-5 transport airplane hangar on the base as part of ESPN's fourth annual “America's Heroes: A Salute to Our Veterans” airing through Sunday.

Dan Shulman will call the game with analyst Jay Bilas and reporter Andy Katz.

As part of the initiative, the “College GameDay” football version at 8 a.m. Saturday will originate from the flight deck of the USS San Diego, homeported at Naval Base San Diego. Servicemen and women, along with their families, will make up the audience. Tom Rinaldi will profile Clemson walk-on wide receiver Daniel Rodriguez, a decorated Afghanistan War veteran.

— FSN will air the “Battle on the Midway” at 3 p.m. Sunday, featuring Syracuse facing San Diego State aboard the flight deck of the USS Midway aircraft carrier anchored in San Diego Harbor.

— FSN will nationally televise the Baylor at OU game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with announcers Steve Physioc, JC Pearson and reporter Laura McKeeman.

— ABC will regionally televise West Virginia at Oklahoma State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and it will be available to the rest of the nation on ESPN2. Dave Lamont and Kelly Stouffer will call the game.

— Fox College Sports Central (Cox 271) will air the Cal Davis at OSU men's basketball game at 8 p.m. Friday.

— ESPN's “Tip-Off Marathon” on Monday is highlighted by the State Farm Champions Classic from Atlanta with Kansas vs. Michigan State at 6 p.m. and Duke vs. Kentucky at 8 p.m. Dan Shulman, Jay Bilas, Bob Knight and Andy Katz will be the announcers.
