Spurs 99, Thunder 89: OKC puts up a fight in loss

Those final few thousand who stood and cheered as the final seconds trickled off the game clock Tuesday night could have been San Antonio Spurs fans applauding their team’s 99-89 victory over the Thunder inside the Ford Center.

But there was no doubt that Thunder fans were sprinkled among the black-and-white jerseys, showing their own appreciation for the home team putting on a more worthy display than it had the past two outings.

"It feels good to come up here and talk about a game that we weren’t outworked,” coach Scott Brooks said seconds into his postgame press conference.

"It’s a sign that we are still fighting. We had a bad two games, and we came out with some good energy tonight.”

The Thunder ran through the motions in last Friday’s 35-point loss to Portland. Against Indiana on Sunday, the Thunder trailed by as many as 27 before losing by 18.

The Spurs, playing without Manu Ginobili, who is out for the season with an ankle injury, couldn’t shake free from the Thunder until the final two minutes. The Thunder trailed 89-84 with 2:45 left to play, but Spurs guard Tony Parker orchestrated a 10-3 run to put San Antonio ahead by 12 with 57.5 seconds remaining. Parker scored or assisted seven of the Spurs’ 10 points during the run.

The Thunder, on the other hand, went 1-for-4 from the field down the stretch.

"We just got beat by a team that was better than us tonight,” Nick Collison said.
