Share “St. Louis Rams need a receiving upgrade”

By Mike Baldwin Published: August 25, 2012

The St. Louis Rams need a significant upgrade at wide receiver. The only familiar names are Big 12 guys — former Texas Tech star Danny Amendola and Missouri's Danario Alexander.

Amendola, sidelined most of last season, caught 85 passes two years ago. Alexander, who has been constantly nicked up, had a career-high 26 catches last season.

The veteran is Steve Smith — no not Carolina's Steve Smith. This Steve Smith started only one game last season, but posted a hard-to-explain 107-catch season with the Giants three years ago. He's averaged less than 35 receptions in his other four seasons.

St. Louis drafted Brian Quick (second round) and Chris Givens (fourth round), but neither appears to be an instant impact player. One foundation piece is Lance Kendricks, a talented second-year tight end.
