I grew up a fight fan, so it was cool to interview Michael Buffer this afternoon. The famed sports announcer is hosting OKC Charity Fight Night, which benefits the OKC Police Athletic League, tonight at the Chevy Events Center in Bricktown.
It was a quick turnaround for an interview. Late Wednesday evening, I was going through emails I missed earlier this week, including one from the OKC police. It mentioned a fundraiser where Michael Buffer would be hosting. It went on to say if anyone wanted to interview Buffer, or the UFC’s eight-time world welterweight champion Matt Hughes, they would be available.
Through Nicole Thomas’ help at epiceventsok.com, I was able to meet Buffer downtown for a quick interview.
Our Tim Money is a pro when it comes to shooting video for NewsOK.com. Quick setup. No hassle. Good shooting. We met Buffer, set up, did an eight minute interview, and were out the door in less than 30 minutes.
Cool guy. Buffer said he flew last weekend from Montreal to his home in LA for a few days, now here in OKC. Then he’s off to NYC and Monte Carlo in the next couple weeks.
Just like John O’Hurley a couple weeks ago, Buffer was gracious, well-spoken and gave a good interview. I watched an HBO report on Buffer that said he and his brother had marketed the “Let’s get ready to rumble” slogan, and generated around $400 million.
As Don King used to say, only in America!
