The day has finally come: The cast for "Star Wars: Episode VII" has been revealed. has this to say about the cast:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

OK, so let’s take a look at the actors that are new to the series, as mentioned in the press release quoted above. I'll do my best to speculate who they'll be playing, but chances are I'm wrong since Abrams has said the new movies won't draw 100 percent from the Expanded Universe. But here I go!

John Boyega – “Attack the Block” and “Junkhearts”

I'm guessing he'll play a Jedi, which has already been rumored before today. He's young and has the build for it.

Daisy Ridley – various television series such as “Silent Witness”

Jaina Solo, Han and Leia's child. Or, whatever they decide to name the Solos' daughter. She will most likely be a Jedi as well, just like Jaina is in the Expanded Universe.

Adam Driver – “Girls,” “Inside Llewyn Davis” and “Lincoln”

Jacen Solo, Jaina's twin, and eventual bad guy. Driver is a solid actor and could really pull off a menacing character, I feel. Plus, he looks a lot like Jacen based on artist depictions of the character.

Oscar Isaac – “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Drive” and “Sucker Punch”

I hope a bounty hunter-type character. Perhaps someone working with Boba Fett, if he makes an appearance. Or, he could be a leader in the New Republic. I'd prefer him to be a morally-gray character, though.

Andy Serkis – “Lord of the Rings,” “King Kong” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”

Considering Serkis' filmography, he'll likely portray a character that's heavy with CGI, like he did as Gollum. So he'll be some alien, maybe even a Jedi. I could see him a mentor to the young potential Jedi mentioned above, so there won't have to be too much screen time devoted to Mark Hamill.

Donald Gleeson – “Harry Potter” series,” “A Dog Year” and “About Time”

A bad guy. Maybe in the remnant of whatever's left of the Empire.

Max von Sydow – “The Seventh Seal,” “The Exorcist” and “Minority Report”

I hope Sydow plays a villain. He's got the chops for anything, but he'd make a great villain. I just hope it isn't a Sith. I'd prefer to see him as a credible threat from within the New Republic.
