The state Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services developed a grief counseling plan for anyone suffering after Hurricane Katrina.

Department spokesman Jeff Dismukes said the plan will be very similar to Project Heartland, which was developed to help people cope with the Oklahoma City bombing. That program aided more than 180,000 people.

"We want to be able to help anyone that might be grieving after what has happened with the hurricane," he said. "We want to be able to link anyone that needs mental health assistance to the right people."

Dismukes said they will have several locations where people can go to get help from on-site counselors.

Anyone statewide can call toll-free (800) 522-9054, 24 hours a day for more information, including the nearest counseling locations.
