Guard honors governor

Gov. Brad Henry was given the Charles Dick Medal of Merit by the National Guard Association of the United States. The award was announced Friday at the association’s national conference in Nashville, Tenn. Henry was nominated for his support of the Okla-homa National Guard by Maj. Gen. Myles Deering,

adjutant general of Oklahoma. Deering praised Henry for policies benefiting men and women serving in the state’s National Guard. Some of those

policies include

income tax relief and life insurance policies for every member

of the Oklahoma National Guard and Air National Guard. Henry has also

visited the state’s National Guard units in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait and supported those who assisted in recovery after

Hurricane Katrina.

Man arrested in killing
Police arrested a man in connection with a shooting that left a man dead at an Oklahoma City nightclub on Sunday. Markeese Ward,

19, was arrested Thursday after being questioned about the death of Calvin Atchison, police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said. Ward also was shot during the incident. Calvin Atchison, who turned 23 Sunday, was found shot about 3 a.m. in the parking lot of Fritzi’s II, 1110 N MacArthur Blvd. He was taken to a hospital where he was

pronounced dead.

Bus crash injures 10
An accident involving a Catoosa school bus left the driver and nine children with minor injuries. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the accident occurred about 7:40 a.m. Friday on a Wagoner County road. The patrol said the 61-year-old bus driver, Marsha Boyles of Claremore, dropped the right rear wheels of the bus off the road. She over-

corrected and ran into a tree.
