Monte Thompson handed in his letter of resignation last night at a school board meeting. Thompson's last day will be June 30, 2009, he said.

Thompson, 46, said he decided to step down from the spot he's held for the past nine years because he disagrees with financial decisions the board has made.

Superintendents in Oklahoma are fiscally responsible for school district finances. If a district goes into the red, a superintendent's teaching certificate can be revoked, Thompson said.

Thompson said he plans to begin looking for a job and is willing to stay through the school year. The Davis School District has about 930 students enrolled.

Water line work disrupts traffic
Water line improvements are forcing the closure of University Drive between Second and Ninth streets during daylight hours.

University will only be open to local traffic, Edmond officials said.

The water line work, part of the annual line replacement program, should take about eight weeks. Residents will get a 48-hour notice if their water will be cut off. has disabled the comments for this article.
