Stipe nephew faces charge
The nephew of former state Sen. Gene Stipe has been charged with assault for allegedly punching the operator of a McAlester Web site that was frequently critical of the longtime senator and his late brother, Francis Stipe. A special prosecutor filed the misdemeanor charge Thursday in Pittsburg County against McAlester businessman Wayne Stipe, Francis Stipe’s son. Wayne Stipe is accused of punching Harold King in the mouth Aug. 9, 2008, in the parking lot of a McAlester store.

Bank robbery reward rises
The Oklahoma State Bank is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for Thursday’s robbery of a S Coltrane Road branch north of Edmond, the FBI said. The reward is in addition to the $5,000 reward offered by the Oklahoma Bankers Association. Two tellers were pistol-whipped during the robbery. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 290-7770.

Checkpoint planned
The Oklahoma County sheriff’s office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint from 11 p.m. today to 3 a.m. Sunday. The location is not being released. Anyone suspected of driving under the influence will be directed to a safe area for further observation and possible testing.
