Lawmen lack clues in drive-by
A man was killed after a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning in southeast Oklahoma City, police Sgt. Charles Phillips said.

The victim's identity was not released. Phillips said the victim is a man in his 30s.

About 2:25 a.m., the victim was stopped in his car on S Bryant Avenue near SE 44 when another vehicle pulled alongside, Phillips said. The occupants of the other vehicle opened fire on the victim's car, striking him and a passenger. The shooters then sped away.

The victim managed to drive to a nearby house in the 5100 block of S Briarwood Drive, Phillips said. Both shooting victims were taken to an Oklahoma City hospital, and one died later in the day.

Police have no description of the suspects or their vehicle, Phillips said.

Police identify slaying victim
Police identified Calvin Eddy, 32, as the victim of a fatal shooting Friday in Oklahoma City.

An altercation that began elsewhere ended near SE 35 and S Shields Boulevard about 10 p.m. Friday with Eddy and another man shot, police said. The second victim, whose identity has not been released, is expected to recover.

Investigators don't have any suspects, and no arrests were made, police Sgt. Charles Phillips said.

1893 land run to be celebrated
Perry will stage its annual commemoration of the 1893 Cherokee Strip land run Saturday.

The Sept. 16, 1893, run opened the Cherokee Outlet of northern Oklahoma to white settlement, with an estimated 100,000 people participating.

Saturday begins with a fun run and 5K run starting at 7:15 a.m. A parade begins at 10 a.m. using the theme, "You Know We Belong to the Land.”

Blues festival begins Thursday
Billed as Oklahoma's largest free music festival, the 11th annual Stillwater Blues Festival begins Thursday at the Stillwater Community Center, Eighth Avenue and Duck Street.

Sessions begin at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday and run to 11 p.m. each night. The Sunday session is noon to 5 p.m.

Event to honor ex-civic leader
Five hours of entertainment are planned in Newkirk beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday during the annual Charlie Adams Day.

The festival, named for longtime Newkirk druggist, civic leader and horseman Charlie Adams, will be on the Kay County Courthouse lawn.
