With the exception of Northeastern A&M, which is expected to get a junior-college bowl invitation, another football season is basically in the books for the state's small schools. Bacone might have been the state's biggest surprise, finishing 7-4 and once earning a No. 23 rating by NAIA coaches. ... East Central benefitted from the late-season return of defensive end Armonty Bryant. ... Northeastern State and Northwestern State each won their last four games of the season to earn some respectability. ... Nick Bobeck will need time to turn around his Central Oklahoma Bronchos. ... This time last year, Southern Nazarene was fresh off winning the Central States Football League championship and preparing for its first NAIA playoff game in school history. No one said the move to NCAA Division II would be easy, SNU fans.
