The No. 3-ranked Central Oklahoma wrestling team is a good bet to contend for the program's 16th national championship. Casy Rowell is a good bet to have a big hand in that, especially if he continues a current roll. The junior 133-pounder went into Wednesday night's dual at Truman State (Mo.) on a 17-match win streak and ranked third in the nation at his weight. Rowell visited with The Oklahoman about the season, his win streak and plans for the future:

“I try not to get caught up in it (win streak). I just try to take it day by day. We're starting to get into the really hard part of our season, so I'm focusing on that.”

UCO had a 23-3 record before Wednesday night's dual and “we're really starting to see how the hard work is paying off with the success we've been having. I think we've got a great chance to win it all.”

Rowell said team statistics were posted the other day, and he has an incredible 68-8 advantage in takedowns. “It was just crazy. I didn't know I was doing as well as that. It was kind of shocking.”

The three-time state champ from Duncan High School was also recruited by Old Dominion, Cal State-Fullerton, Virginia, Purdue and Oklahoma. “It came down to OU and UCO because I really wanted to stay in Oklahoma. My brother (Cody) was here, and at UCO, you get the summer off so you can be a normal person; you can't do that at OU. I'm not afraid of working hard at all, but that's just the way I am. It's just me. I want to be a normal person during the summer, get to do things I want to do.”
