Oklahoma reimbursement extended for autism program at day care center
Cleveland County commissioners approve contract amendment that will have OU reimburse county health department up to $20,000 this fiscal year for autism education services at a Norman day care center that's administered through the county's Sooner Start program.
NORMAN — Cleveland County commissioners Monday approved changes to two contracts with state agencies that involve children and youth services.
The first action amended a contract between the Cleveland County Health Department and University of Oklahoma Board of Regents, which calls for OU to reimburse the county up to $20,000 this fiscal year for educational services expenses for autistic children up to age 3.
The new program, developed at the OU Health Sciences Center, had been approved in March for implementation at NorthHaven Church's day care center in Norman, through the county's Sooner Start program.
OU was to reimburse the county up to $20,000 through June 30 of this year. The contract amendment extends the reimbursement allowance through June 30, 2011.
County commissioners also canceled a transportation provision in this fiscal year's contract between the county and state Office of Juvenile Affairs. Commissioner Rod Cleveland said deputies and other county officials don't transport youth offenders to other facilities, so the provision was unnecessary.
"Our juveniles stay here and other counties bring theirs to us, so it wasn't really applicable to us," Cleveland said.
