His career began as a mail clerk and runner for the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1994. After serving in several staff positions, Joe served as an assistant to the executive director of the House Stand and helped create the Pageville educational component for the high school pages that rotate each week through the Capitol.
After working in Washington, D.C., for a period of time,. Dorman returned to the Oklahoma House of Representatives as the special projects coordinator for the House staff.
He resigned from the House of Representatives in 2002 to seek the state representative position in House District 65. He has continued to be re-elected since that time.
