State school leader says schools should set higher goals

State Schools Superintendent Sandy Garrett said today that social struggles such as poverty and budget crunches due to rising costs should not keep schools from setting and reaching higher goals.

- Reducing classroom interruptions to make sure children have every opportunity to learn.
- Hiring graduation coaches and test coordinators so counselors have time to help students in need.
- Integrating technology so students are as connected in the classroom as they are out of the classroom.
