— When Carl Albert's Abby Meador was pitching in the 2011 state tournament, she was generally unable to pitch past the fifth inning.

That wasn't an issue for her Saturday, as she did not allow a hit during the Titans' 13-0 run-rule victory of Deer Creek to win the Class 5A championship.

“I have come a long way and my pitching coach has a lot to do with that,” Meador said. “I'm just glad we finished it like this.”

The title is Carl Albert's fifth in fastpitch and first since that 2011 season.

Meador, who has committed to Oklahoma City University, struck out seven and walked five, overcoming a strike zone the Titans felt was small.

“It was a tough zone, but she kept battling and kept working and stayed with it,” Carl Albert coach Colin White said. “She's come a long ways since she was a freshman.

“That would have bothered her when she was a freshman if she wasn't getting strikes like she wasn't getting today, but she's come a long ways, matured and has great stuff.”

The Titans, who finished the season with a 34-1 record, scored early and never let up.

Senior shortstop Morgan Heard opened the game with a leadoff homer against Deer Creek's Emily Watson. The Titans then added one more run in the second, chasing Watson briefly.

In the third, though, the rout started.

Carl Albert scored eight runs on both freshman Molly Mabry and Watson, taking advantage of four errors for an 11-0 lead.
