BOLES' SINGLE POWERS WAYNE TO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Sophomore Bailey Boles singled to right centerfield to drive in Wayne's only run of the game against Cyril. But it was the only run Wayne would need.

No. 9 Wayne defeated No. 7 Cyril 1-0 and will have an opportunity to play Savanna for the Class 2A state championship at 6:30 p.m.

Boles said a prayer before stepping into the batter's box before her game-winning hit.

“I just told the Lord I'm putting it in your hands," she said. "He just let me have it.”

Wayne coach Scott Brewer was out of breath after hugging his players and telling them how proud of each of them he was.

“This is a great bunch of kids here,” he said. “They stepped up and didn't panic today. We didn't get a bunch of hits, but we got one when it counted there at the end.”
