Class 4A's No. 1-ranked Hilldale advanced to the state finals after defeating No. 4-ranked Blanchard 5-2 Friday at the state softball tournaments in Shawnee.
Hilldale (34-5) took a 1-0 first-inning lead after leadoff hitter Hillary Calvert reached on a walk. Casady Mills followed by reaching on an error that forced home Calvert for the early advantage.
Mills got things going again for Hilldale in the third with a one-out walk to start a three-run inning. Mills and Destiny Riddles scored on a two-run double by Sarah Hughey, who scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
Blanchard (35-10) tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Lauren Miller reached on a one-out single before Ashli Hafford smashed a two-run home run to cut Hilldale's lead to 5-2. Riddle retired the following two Blanchard hitters to pick up the victory and send the Hornets to the state championship.
Moore 4, Mustang 1
Moore defeated Mustang 4-1 to advance to the 6A state finals Friday.
A first-inning, two-run home run by Kristen Prieto was all Moore pitcher Jenna Lynn needed as she cruised to the victory. Lynn pitched seven innings, giving up one run on three hits.
Moore (34-3) controlled a 2-0 lead into the 6th inning before Mustang (23-11) cut the score in half with a late rally. Mustang catcher Katelyn Fischer cracked a double to start the sixth and later scored on an error.
The Lions added two insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth off a two-run single by Brianna McArthur. Lynn closed the game out in the ninth inning to advance the Lions into the state championship.
Bethel 7, Cache 2
No. 6-ranked Bethel defeated No. 10-ranked Cache 7-2 to advance to the Class 4A state championship Friday.
Bethel pitcher Kim Herron allowed two runs on two hits over seven innings for the state semifinals victory. Her only earned run came on a solo home run by Hollie Johnson in the top of the seventh inning.
Bethel (27-11) rocked Cache pitcher Randi Hamilton for seven runs on six hits, including a solo home run by Kelsey Eropkin. Eropkin finished with three hits and two RBIs.
The Wildcats scored four runs in the sixth inning to ice the victory. Mikayla Whitten and Zoe Rayner recorded two singles in the inning and scored two runs.
Bethel will play Hilldale for the Class 4A state championship Saturday in Shawnee.
Cache finishes the season 28-10.
Southmoore 6, Broken Arrow 0
Southmoore defeated Broken Arrow 6-0 to advance to the Class 6A state championship Friday.
Katelyn Brown pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just one hit to lead the SaberCats. Brown also had an RBI single and scored one of her own insurance runs in the seventh inning.
Sydney Sherrill got things going for Southmoore in the second inning with a two-run home run to give the SaberCats a 2-0 lead. Sherrill finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Southmoore cushioned Brown's 2-0 lead in the seventh with four runs on three hits and a walk.
The SaberCats will play Moore for the Class 6A championship Saturday in Shawnee. Moore won the two teams' only matchup of the season on Oct. 3.
Carl Albert 11, Tahlequah 4
Carl Albert (34-1) advanced to the Class 5A state championship with an 11-4 semifinals win over Tahlequah (37-4) Friday.
Carl Albert got things going early with two runs on three hits in the first inning. Liz DeShields, Krista Waggoner and Abby Meador combined to drive in and score the three runs on two singles and a double.
The Titans added three runs in the second on two hits, a walk and an error. Kersten Wojak drew a leadoff walk before Bailey Strecker reached on an error. Each scored on a single by Morgan Heard. Heard scored later in the inning.
Meador allowed four runs in seven innings for Carl Albert and had 13 strikeouts.
Carl Albert will play Deer Creek for the Class 5A state title Saturday in Shawnee. Carl Albert won two of the teams' three matchups during the regular season.
