Class 4A's No. 1-ranked Hilldale advanced to the state finals after defeating No. 4-ranked Blanchard 5-2 Friday at the state softball tournaments in Shawnee.
Hilldale (34-5) took a 1-0 first-inning lead after leadoff hitter Hillary Calvert reached on a walk. Casady Mills followed by reaching on an error that forced home Calvert for the early advantage.
Mills got things going again for Hilldale in the third with a one-out walk to start a three-run inning. Mills and Destiny Riddles scored on a two-run double by Sarah Hughey, who scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.
Blanchard (35-10) tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Lauren Miller reached on a one-out single before Ashli Hafford smashed a two-run home run to cut Hilldale's lead to 5-2. Riddle retired the following two Blanchard hitters to pick up the victory and send the Hornets to the state championship.
Moore 4, Mustang 1
Moore defeated Mustang 4-1 to advance to the 6A state finals Friday.
A first-inning, two-run home run by Kristen Prieto was all Moore pitcher Jenna Lynn needed as she cruised to the victory. Lynn pitched seven innings, giving up one run on three hits.
Moore (34-3) controlled a 2-0 lead into the 6th inning before Mustang (23-11) cut the score in half with a late rally. Mustang catcher Katelyn Fischer cracked a double to start the sixth and later scored on an error.
The Lions added two insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth off a two-run single by Brianna McArthur. Lynn closed the game out in the ninth inning to advance the Lions into the state championship.
Bethel 7, Cache 2
No. 6-ranked Bethel defeated No. 10-ranked Cache 7-2 to advance to the Class 4A state championship Friday.
Bethel pitcher Kim Herron allowed two runs on two hits over seven innings for the state semifinals victory. Her only earned run came on a solo home run by Hollie Johnson in the top of the seventh inning.
