State spending continues through Quality Jobs program

Published: May 6, 2013

State government spending is at an all-time high. Legislators will never have enough money. Their income tax reduction bill will take about 10 years to eliminate the state income tax for individuals. During this time, Kansas and Texas will grow their economies without giving away the farm.

Gov. Mary Fallin will still be offering incentives to billion-dollar corporations like General Electric. GE management knows a great location when expanding. Fallin's $3 million gift to GE probably isn't the last giveaway program GE will enjoy. No doubt taxpayers will end up subsidizing their payroll through the Quality Jobs and tax credit programs. In the last fiscal year, Quality Jobs awarded 629 corporations/businesses $68.9 million in the taxpayers' hard-earned money.

Quality Jobs is just one of many “incentive development” corporate welfare programs. Taxpayers keep sifting through the manure we're being fed by legislators while praying for tax relief.
