Statement from Cliff Hudson, chairman of the Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education

"We were pleased to learn at Superintendent Porter's press conference that he plans to sit down with the Board to discuss and review the findings of an investigative report

. To date, Superintendent Porter has chosen to go around the process instead of through the process. We have been surprised at the effort of Superintendent Porter to prevent tomorrow's meeting with the Board. Make no mistake about it, this is an unpleasant and regrettable situation for everyone involved. But the Board is doing its job to make sure the District conducts its business in a proper and lawful manner. That said, we could not agree more with the vision to build a world class school district in Oklahoma City. We must, however, do it right and in an accountable and responsible way."

I have met Dr. Porter and was very excited to see someone of his calibre in Oklahoma City. After seeing the list of indescretions, I am deeply saddened. If these hold to be true (which with the detail in which they described them, it's seems they are) then we clearly have to dismiss Dr. Porter. In the "corporate world" the list of those items in which he filed for reimbursement would be be considered embezzlement. These were not justifiable expenses for work related activities. I'm anxious to see how he responds to these accusations. It probably won't fix the problem, but I would like to hear his justification for his actions.

The entire school district was on break including the school board...I would not want to be bothered while I was on my vacation. They have a problem with Dr Porter because he is not following their lead but they knew what type of person he was when they hired him. If they want the school district to stay the way it is "terriable" then they need to get rid of Porter or they need to work with the man to make postive moves for better education.

what about the accusations? should they just ignore them? if he has proof porter spent tax dollars in the incorrect manner, then he should be let go.

The 'problem' Hudson has with Porter is NOT that he supposedly didn't contact the board! Porter came in and actually put a positive plan of action in place to enhance our school district. Something the board 'talks' well about lacks consistent action to sustain their rhetoric. It sounds like the chairman would be happier with someone who would simply follow his instructions no matter what. I appreciate a strong leader who recognizes something different has to be done if we are all expect different results. I stand with Dr. Porter and encourage all of you who truly believe that we have failed our children in this public school system to stand with me.

Porter supposedly had some " family emergency" that kept him out of town and from contacting the board he said on the news tonight. Heck I'd get fired and deservedly so if I used a cockamamie excuse like that ....
