Stephanie Kuzydym: Lon Kruger 'ahead of schedule' with OU basketball rebuilding

Honestly, every one on that team seems to embrace all moves that Kruger has made, with the exception being Isaiah Cousins. I mean, he lost his starting spot but they are trying to work with him on being more physical. As for Cam, I haven't gotten a chance to talk with him recently, but I did interview him a month or so ago about having a new role on the team this year (going from a starter to a reserve) and he, along with everyone else I interviewed, said it's Kruger's decision and as long as they are winning, they will help the team in whatever capacity.

Any OU basketball players with nicknames that we should know about? I have heard "Ro" for Osby and "Bird" for Pledger.

You've pretty much got them. Sometimes Lon calls Andrew Fitzgerald "Drew" and the team calls him "Fitz." The three freshman guards will give no other nickname than 'three the hard way' or those kitchen appliances. And Amath is just Amath.

What’s your prediction for tomorrow's game? Any chance OU gets out of Manhattan with the W?

I don't think Oklahoma sneaks away like they did last year. Steven Pledger actually talked about his 30-point game from last year with us yesterday and he said everything was just falling right to him at the right time. However, a definite chance of them getting out with a W. It all depends on if Romero is on plus another starter or again a huge contribution from the bench, plus factor in Rodney McGruder.

Have you heard any 2013 recruiting buzz for OU basketball? Any chance you could get an update from 5 star big man Julius Randle (Plano, Texas)?

No basketball recruiting buzz yet. Still working on football recruiting.

Can anyone oust Kansas from winning the Big 12 this year?

Highly, highly, highly doubtful. Fran Fraschilla and I talked last week and he said Kansas is the clear winner of the Big 12. Right now he thinks it will be Kansas, Baylor. Also heard from other basketball people that it's Kansas and Baylor then there's three pretty good, three ok and then two just clearly at the bottom.
