NORMAN — Oklahoma freshman receiver Sterling Shepard made his home debut Saturday in the Sooners' 69-13 victory over Florida A&M.

Shepard had three catches for 48 yards wearing the same No. 3 jersey as his father, former Sooner Derrick Sheppard, who died in 1999 when he son was six years old. After the game, Sterling Shepard, a former All-Stater at Heritage Hall, talked about what it all meant to him.

Q: You made that first catch kind of acrobatic.

A: Yeah I was just trying to get open, went to the middle and Landry (Jones) saw me and saw the ball whistling so I knew I had to get it.

Q: How'd it feel, just that first catch?

A: It was a relief. I got the first one out of the way. Hopefully there's plenty more to come, and I just thought of my dad when I caught it.

Q: What was it like to get the kind of reception you did?

A: It was great. I popped up and then knew I had to get the next play though, so I just got my mind back ready to catch another one. Locked it up.

Q: Since you've been here they've talked about your ability to pick up the offense quickly. How have you done it?
