Stifling heat returns to Oklahoma Monday

Hot weather is returning this week in Oklahoma. The heat index will top 100 degrees Monday through Wednesday.

Hot, muggy days have returned to Oklahoma Monday, the National Weather Service reports.

The heat index will be near 102 degrees with the actual high temperature in central Oklahoma near 96 degrees Monday, the weather service reports.

An excessive heat watch is in effect for the Tulsa area in northeast Oklahoma from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, the weather service reports.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be even hotter despite a slight chance for rain Wednesday.

The Oklahoma City forecast is as follows:

Monday: Sunny with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 102. South wind 7 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Monday night: Mostly clear with a low around 74. South, southeast wind 8 to 13 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny and hot with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 104. South wind 5 to 11 mph.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 76. South wind around 7 mph.

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 98. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming north in the afternoon.

Thursday: Mostly sunny with a high near 95.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 74.

Friday: Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 97.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 75.
