NORMAN — A high speed pursuit ended with a crash of a stolen sport utility vehicle near the Riverwind Casino Thursday, police report.

About 5:15 a.m. Norman police were alerted of a black pickup stolen from Moore in the area of SW 19 and Santa Fe. The pickup was reported to be headed to Norman and followed closely by a dark-colored sport utility vehicle. Norman police spotted both vehicles about 5:30 a.m. going south on 48th Ave NW. Officers attempted to stop the vehicles in the area of Robinson Street and 48th Ave NW, police report in a news release Thursday.

The black pickup was driven into a residential neighborhood in an attempt to elude officers. The driver abandoned the pickup in the area of Davinbrook Drive and Pinon Court and fled on foot, police report.

The dark SUV driver fled north on 48th to Tecumseh Road and east to Interstate 35 and then south on I-35 with Norman police patrol cars in pursuit.

The SUV driver continued south, exiting I-35 at State Highway 9 West in Newcastle, police report.

The SUV then collided with a vehicle in the interstection of SH 9, and the SUV driver continued to go south. The SUV stopped in a field east of Riverwind Casino.

Officers were able to take the female driver into custody. The male suspect driving the pickup has not been found. There were no injuries in the collision. The pursuit and collision are still being investigated by Norman and Newcastle Police, the news release states.
