BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops are among Big 12 Conference football coaches warning players about using social networking sites on the Internet such as Facebook and MySpace.

The fifth-ranked Sooners have their compliance office monitoring pages of players on Facebook.

Stoops says he tells his players that anything they put on their sites is going to be public and to be smart about it. He says that from time to time, players are asked about what's on their sites.

Gundy says OSU doesn't have a particular policy about players using social networking sites other than to be careful what they put on those sites.

A Texas player was recently dismissed from the team after posting a racial slur on his Facebook page about President-elect Barack Obama.

The Longhorns' backup center, Buck Burnette, later apologized and said he made a "terrible decision" in posting a text message he received about Obama's victory that contained a racial slur.

As a forty year old mother of three, I had to learn about facebook and myspace and texgting to supervise my teenagers in this arena. Bob and his peers doing the same thing every parent should do with a severe legal oversight from "compliance officers". Maneuvering in cyberspace without offending anyone is a sophisticated skill. Instead of bashing Coach Stoops for being out of touch, I applaud his pro-active policies as he tries to teach the young adults in his care about social networking in the information age.

Barney, ok, but what does this have to do with our facebook obsession discussion and the evils of technology? Right now I am a slave to waiting on Cox's email system to work to bring in a business deal via email...for 2 hours now. By the way, you could be fined for calling Bob a hipocrite in the electronic www temple. (Yes, and beat tech...ironic considering our discussion)

bob = hipocrite I'm a professional sports watcher, yeah, georgia had a black out and it looked like they got massaged with fishing tackle the way they played... yeah.... who on here can kick the ball outta the end zone....didn't think so. So quit talkin like u can do betta. Also, with us scoring so many points we have had to kick off more times than anyone in the 'nation' so of course we are going to have some good run backs. (doesn't mean we couldn't do better but quit whinning) also, with us scoring so much it increases the amount of possesions the other team gets. (increased likelyhood they will score points.) But we destroy the point spread thats what counts!!!! We need to fix sum things but quit ur whinnin'. We don't gotta worry about there homer refs this year either.....beat taco tech! Oh yeah and the tech fans r the worst in the big 12. they have absoulutely no respect for no won. Go Sooners! Oh yeah and the d fence haz been improvin. The moral of the story iz yeah we can improve but quit whinnin'....remember the blake dayz. Go sooners!.... beat taco tech!!!

Wow, mama's house, heh..heh..I find that comment totally self absorbed! Like totally! Just joking, actually, I am quite high tech but as far as connecting with people I use the phone. Texting is also evil. Repent you evil technology users!

Funny how Bob lets us know his curiosity of these mediums...in a forum such as this! However, I don't find any solace in digging up the good old days either, Rich. We all adapt to our culture - no need to be a survivalist at this time. (Heaven help us, however, with that person who has just been elected). Thanks

Maybe Bob isn't part of todays technology world, but I bet he can run a slide rule. If he can't, I can. Can any of todays BYP do basic arithmetic? I doubt it. These people will struggle when all the batteries in their world go dead and they have to survive. Probably can't spell well enough to use a dictionary.

Bob is obviously not part of todays technology world! Bob, wake up.

Bob, you're obviously too old to get it. Meet some college age kids and talk with them. It's not about being self absorbed as you put it, it's about connecting with people.

I'm still not sure why anyone would use either facebook or myspace. How self absorbed do people really need to be?
