Stoops once again hints at using Knight, Thompson occasionally

Sooners coach Bob Stoops said a couple of weeks ago that there could be an opening for a change-of-pace package with either Trevor Knight or Kendal Thompson in the game at quarterback.

Against TCU and Texas, though, Blake Bell remained fully in place and after Saturday’s loss, co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel said there was never a discussion about putting Knight into the game.

But with the Sooners’ offense struggling recently–just three touchdowns over the last two games–Stoops said Monday that there was a chance the Sooners could implement a Knight or Thompson package to kickstart the offense.

Thompson was in a three-way battle for the starting job before suffering a broken foot on the first day of practice in August.

“He’s doing really well,” Stoops said of Thompson. “It’s just getting him caught up after missing so many practices. He’s working at it and doing great.”
