NORMAN — Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops opened a Twitter account several months ago, but kept it private and for recruiting purposes only.

Until today.

The Sooner football coach’s account (@OU_CoachStoops) was made public Thursday.

“My Twitter account? Strictly recruiting,” Stoops told reporters on signing day back in February. “You guys can’t get on it. I restrict it to recruits.”

Asked if others had tried to follow him, he said, “Oh yeah. Quite a few. But that’s not happening. That’s like I had a published email for a day. My secretary walked in with a stack of papers, just suggestions and what I need to be doing and everything else. That was way back in, I want to say, 2001.”

Then, Stoops was asked why he wouldn’t go public with his Twitter account, as several other prominent coaches have done it.

“I’m not other coaches,” Stoops said. “I don’t know who does, doesn’t and I don’t care what other people do. I’m not trying to measure myself to them. So I’ll do what pleases me.”
