Your thoughts!
Oklahoma has a good coach but he loses the most important game's of season for four straight years. There must be some good explanation why? The Sooners are already in the top ten in the 2008 pre-season polls. Now, Bob Stoops needs to work on the next bowl game right now! Right now! They need to practice, practice, practice on screen plays, short slant passes and roll-out passes now. The running game will not work if the hole in the line is always blocked. They need to work on the penalties situation. Penalties killed us! Oklahoma has been executing the same plays since the year 2000. Oklahoma needs some new plays and at least one trick play. Do I have to coach the Sooners? Do I? Now, get your heads out of your asses and play like champions!!!!

OU lost.......cue Nelson HA HA
Philip, Oklahoma City - Jan 7, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Whose been sucking on the pipe fitting? Of course they beat North Texas, Utah State and Tulsa. They also beat Missouri...twice, Beat OSU, Texas, should have beat Colorado and Tech, but turned in sub-par performances there as well. All I'm saying is if you concentrate on all of the embarrasing things that OU has done and think that ONLY OU is the laughing stock, you're sadly mistaken, my friend. If you were truly a NCAA sports follower, then you'd understand that each and every NCAA school has it's problems. Some even worse than OU. Look at the University of Miami for example...a bunch of thugs, being coached by a fellow thug, himself. So...I'm sorry if OU has beaten your favorite team and made you feel embarrassed a time or two, don't blame OU for that, blame your own team and their coaches.
Phil, Tuttle - Jan 6, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Hey Phil,
Oklahoma didn't get beat by Appalachian State. But they didn't play them either, so what kind of statement is that? Oklahoma did beat power teams from North Texas, Utah State and Tulsa. WOO HOO.
Load up on those out of conference teams so that your "we are wonderful" mutual admiration society can talk 'bout them "Sooners".
Go suck on a pipe fitting. No wonder "natural gas" is the major product of Oklahoma.

I agree with Phil. the thing everyone needs to remember is what Stoops and his staff has accomplished multiple big 12 championships. They have won a national and played for 2 more. The bowl games as structured are a reward for a great season. Unless it is for the national championship who cares except for bragging rights. The coaches and players have earned the time to relax and have fun. I went to the feista bowl last year and had a great time and saw a great game. Don't forget Barry after winning his first two nationals only won 1 in his last 14 years. He had a chance at more than that. Bob and his staff are doing a great job. Everyone needs to put their energy into supporting our great program not knocking it. Are you a real OU fan or a band wagon fan who just wants to brag about wins. -
Brian, Owasso - Jan 5, 2008 at 11:33 am
Stoops has brought this program back to where it used to be and where it should stay. Sort of. However, bad coaching, (everywhere) no inspiration, no discipline, bad play calling and little preparation for BIG games. Kansas ST, LSU, USC, Boise ST. and WV. That speaks for itself. Can't ever forgive Long-1st down at the 12 with under 3 minutes to go against LSU, after running the ball effectively the length of the field, decides to pass--"because he thought he saw something". Wilson panicking against TT, with his sub QB throwing all over the place instead of keeping his defense off of the field and being methodical and running the ball against the worse run defense in the Big 12. On-sides kick when you're only 5 down because "we thought we saw something". When can you remember a Big-time program getting their A## kicked all over the field in big games. Not occasionally. Consistently. These boys work too hard in the offseason for their highly paid coaches to undermine them due to stupidity and incompetence. Assistant coaches should be held accountable. Stoops should be held accountable for their failures.

Let me point it out real clear for everyone...GREAT RECRUITER, good coach
Shawn, Perry - Jan 5, 2008 at 1:58 am
Here's a little spin Bob likes to use after an embarassing loss. He'll say something like...Well I thought we had a good week in practice. I thought we were prepared to go in and win the ballgame. As coaches we called the right plays, the players just didn't execute. Plus the lack of dicipline ya know all those false starts and holding calls really killed us. This is Stoops' tipical way of deflecting the blame or guilt away from himself. They were out coached, out prepared, out schemed, out desired, and out played only as a result of it. All these problems are fixible by GOOD COACHING. If a player continually misses assignments, or misses tackles, or plays out of position, or makes silly penaties correct it by teaching (or coaching) the player how to do it right. If that doesn't resolve the problem then find another player willing and able to do what is required of him. That's also a part of coaching. And quit just talking about righting the ship and take action.
Shawn, Perry - Jan 5, 2008 at 1:51 am
One thing I was thinking about was that the coaching staff has always said they liked bowl games because of the extra practice time for some of the younger players - maybe they should worry more about the game. Plus, it seems every year our assistants are spending a lot of time chasing after head coaching jobs. Are THEY focused. Don't know. Stoops has always emphasized championships. Maybe he should emphasize bowls too.
Kenneth, Norman - Jan 5, 2008 at 12:53 am
Ya know! It really is sad, that all of us "adults" put so much pressure on kids. ...and that's just what they are...18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 year old kids, really. We get so wrapped up in our teams, wanting them to do so well, and when they don't, we get so harsh in our critizisms towards them. Yes, I know, I'm talking to myself as well, because I'm probably the world's worst when it comes to this. Would a 38 year old man have known enough to kick an onside kick more than eight yards and made sure he did it? Yes. I know I sound a lot like Mike Gundy, but you can't help but think that he is right. All of us...so-called, fans, get so wrapped up in our favorite schools and when they don't perform the way we think they should, we can really say some mean things. I know it's hard to imagine, but these kids are just that...KIDS. If you are not a parent, you may not understand fully the point I'm trying to make. Yes, I understand that they choose to put themselves in the National Spotlight playing for a School such as OU, Nebraska, OSU, Texas or any other school in the Nation. We all know that OU has problems right now, but if you will remember, we had even worse problems in the 90's and that got straitened out. As slow as it may have been. But...just remember this...GO AFTER THE COACH...HE'S 40 YEARS OLD...HE'S A MAN...HE CAN TAKE THE HEAT!!! All jokes aside, folks. I'm not telling anyone what they can and can't say, after all, that is your right...but please just think about who reads and hears these things and who you are saying them about. After all...they are just kids.
Phil, Tuttle - Jan 4, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Correction -- I meant "12 pm" but "2 pm" snuck in there (message below), instead.
norma, Oklahoma City - Jan 4, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Has anyone else noticed that all the posts between 10 am and 2 pm disappeared about noon? I'll repeat mine here. "People seem surprised that OU has lost 4 bowl games in a row. OU is usually the the Las Vegas oddsmakers' favorite. Many fans actually bet on the outcome of football games, and whoever has bet against OU has made a lot of money. I wonder who it was? Maybe Pete Rose. "Follow the money."
norma, Oklahoma City - Jan 4, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Yeah, know? I really can't help but go back to the beginning of last year, when someone asked Bob if that was a rebuilding time for OU, after we had lost all but maybe 2 starters. Bob stated that we were not in a rebuilding year, but simply a reloading year. Every OU fan seemed to beleive the hype that Bob fed to us. In my opinion, only to be let down. I'm not saying that they played that badly, but in no way was OU ever as good as that class that had just left. I think if Bob would have simply stated..."Look...we lost a great group of players. The ones we have coming up are good, but it's going to take a couple of years to get them going and for us to get to where we need to be." I think all of this would be looked at in a whole different light. The only thing I have left to hope for right now, is the fact that maybe, they are preparing these guys and that these players have learned from their mistakes. Now...that's where the coaches come in. If these coaches are as good as they say they are, then they will coach these guys and continue to make them better.
Phil, Tuttle - Jan 4, 2008 at 9:10 pm
I'm a huge OU fan, and I like Stoops a lot. But the coaching was the main culprit in this loss. Nevertheless, Stoops came out and made it seem like the players and a "lack of discipline" were at fault for this embarassing loss. He begrudgingly admitted that he might share some blame, but he really seemed to shift it most of it to the players. Time for Bob to own up. The onside kick was a failure. The early failed 2-pt. conversion was a failure. The obvious lack of preparation was a failure. Sure - there were missed tackles and bad blocking. But this game was all about bad coaching. I'm not about to call for any coach's head. I like them all. But Stoops needs to acknowledge the fact that this game was lost due to poor coaching and take steps to see that it doesn't happen again. Be humble and admit your failure, Bob. Otherwise, I lose respect.
Philip, Fort Worth - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:49 pm
OH...hell...I make one mistake in my life and you call me on it!!! Shame on me!!! I don't really care that Oklahoma gets made fun of. There are a lot of States that get a lot worse, Arkansas coming to mind...but that's a different topic. But...anyway...it's easy for all everyone else to make comments and jokes about Oklahomans. But...what happens when OU beats them in any sport they play. Not so much a joke then, huh?
Phil, Tuttle - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Just to show what I mean by the "rest of the country" making jokes about okie dokie land..I submit this:
http://gizmodo.com/340515/area-man-parks-car-on-house-roof-tells-police-gps-made-me-do-it
Granted it's a fake..but notice where they picked to name it happening...coincidence?? methinks not...
Oh yeah....just FYI..it's "except"..not "accept"....
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Some of the fans maybe making excuses. But...I'll give you that. There are no excuses for the way OU played, that night, or anyother time they got blown out in the BCS the past 4 years. Look...something is definately screwed up beyond all recognition down there in Norman. I have no real detailed information about the illegal activities that took place down there, nor do I have them about any and all illegal activities that take place in any other NCAA school. Another point that I will give you, is the fact that WVU did look like they were having fun, before the game even started. When they would show the sidelines of OU, it would appear that OU was at a job. No expression on their faces, coaches or players. No excitement. I will say this, it is my opinion, that WVU could've beaten LSU and/or Ohio St. the way they played against OU Wednesday night. In a way it is an embarrasment to OU fans everywhere, that just before the game, they showed a map of the entire country and every state in the Union was shaded red, accept for West Virginia...but...to all those other Big Twelve schools that talk about OU being the embarrasment...they need to look at what happened when OU played them and how bad they got beat by OU.
Phil, Tuttle - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Why do I deserve to get my head rammed into the ground?? Please share....
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Looks to me like he's standing up..I don't think he's gotten his head rammed into the ground just yet.
OU always talks a big line, and look at what happens...trounced by some no name team....and the "Fans" of OU rally and make excuses. Big Red sports made any special donations lately?? Maybe they can pay the bail or fines levied against the coat thief.
The worst part is...nobody plays football for the love of the game anymore...it's all about how flashy they can be..how high a draft pick they can be...how much money they can make with doing as little as possible. It's not a game anymore, it's business..and the yokel fans of OU just keep yukking it up and making excuses over what can at best be called a dismal performance..
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:13 pm
I'm not talking about being a fan of OU. I haven't made any excuses about the way OU played. But...what school do you support? If you don't support any, then what are you ragging about? Talk about half wits and hypocrits!!! If you had just gotten your head ran into the ground...like you so deserve...then you'd be "wincing", too.
Phil, Tuttle - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:09 pm
I'm not a fan of the school.
I don't support the school.
Last I checked, this was not for "OU" fans only.
Last I checked, my rights gave me as much right as your rights give you.
Look at the picture of the OU quarterback "wincing" as stated.....see any other red uniforms in the picture?? Nope..whats that tell you about the way OU played? Now comes the excuses about camera angles, right? For that matter..look right above this box where you type a post....see anything wrong with the line where it says "by by"?? Half wits and hypocrites....
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Not to consider yourselves fans of the school you support is nothing to be glad about. If you aren't a fan, then in my opinion, you have no right to be posting on here about other schools.
Phil, Tuttle - Jan 4, 2008 at 7:53 pm
I don't think a lot of the people posting on here want to consider themselves fans....and are glad we don't....
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 7:43 pm
I hate to even dignify this "BS" with a comment, but all you history buffs, thanks for the history lesson. If that's all you've got to rag on OU about, then you even more lame than I thought. If you all spent as much time cheering for your own teams, as you spend trying to find some lame detail to agonize the Sooners, then you could actually call yourselves fans. If you wanna get technical...I could probably come up with at least three or four embarrasing moments for all 364 NCAA Football Schools in the Nation that's happened within the last three or four years. And yes...I could probably come up with one from your school. The only other thing I have to say is...At least we didn't get beat by Applachia(sp) State!!!
Phil, Tuttle - Jan 4, 2008 at 7:33 pm
For the sake of you poor Sooners I'm going to point out some places where you went wrong. Firstly, Bob Stoops isn't really a ra, ra kind of college coach. Not that he doesn't have a vibrant personality, he's just a little stone-faced and would rather spur with the referees than inspire his team. That interim coach (now head coach and why not) at West Virginia was kind of refreshing! Certainly he didn't feel the pressure that Stoops did but he was smiling and laughing and patting his players on the back the whole game. He was really into motivating his players. They played inspired. Secondly, and this often seems to be the case with OU players unleashed, the coat stealing theft incident was certainly a distraction to the team amidst other mysterious reasons why key personnel did not play. Maybe whoever talked about the Sooners being lawless was on to something because 0U has had a long history of lawlessness with their scholarship athletes. When they speak of Barry being the King, that's what they're talking about, kingpin. Then here we go again with Barry and Jimmy hey good buddy look at us up here in the booth bandwagon OU fans who like the WV offense but praytell there's no way they're going to beat OU tonight! Maybe what Barry really needs is a toupee like Jimmy Johnsons! Or maybe get one like Jimmy Houston and he'd catch more fish! Either way, these guys have more money than they have sense. Five of Eight Big Twelve schools won their bowl games, and the two that lost lost respectably. Honestly, from where I sat, OU looked flat! They have an impressive offensive line but didn't block well. I can remember when OSU played OU and Josh Heupel was QB OSU ran a similar defense, but they may have only rushed two players. It nearly worked then, it really worked for a team with some athletes. Lastly, 0U get's away with a lot of cheating. They hold on almost every down but it's seldom called against them. Their oversized linemen are too big and too slow. For the life of me I don't know why 0U has such a national fan base! They're way overrated and they disappoint year after year; and that zeroU on their helmets looks like something you'd see on a little league teams helmet. Why not go back to the real O and the real U? Ok I've said enough. Your finished!
Mary, Oklahoma City - Jan 4, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Gary in Naples..you are absolutely right...I wasn't talking trash. Okies seem to have this way about them where they forget they suck at almost everything, ranking in the bottom 5% in darn near anything compared to the other states, yet every time somebody points that out..it's always a "Yankee go home" answer and mentality. Being proud is one thing, being stupid about your surroundings and the rest of the country is another...but it seems there is no mentality to differentiate in Okie land...
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Well Camp Anaconda Ryan...I knew what it meant when you posted about Camp Anaconda.,.I was just curious why you felt it relevant to post that on this blog. Before you go getting off on your high and mighty..I was in the Corps while you were still wet nursing and weaned...the big difference is that when I was in the Corps..we didn't feel the need to make that point known every time we had the opportunity to speak...take the hint...I was protecting your freedom before you were born.
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Tammy,
So typical...you are missing the big picture here...It is my words you don't like, it is not me you don't like...you don't know me, yet you attack my character
I am not attacking, I am just pointing out to you how your program is perceived. Perception is reality. Everyone should want to know how others see them. Same for team and fan image.
Yet you illustrate MY POINT: OU is so self-absorbed in their own island, it is no wonder that they see no reason to have boats.
You don't care how others perceive you? Redundant, but your band CONTINUES to play in a losing competition with the sound system of a domed stadium, with the arrogance of, "Oh yes of course EVERYONE wants to hear "Boomer Sooner" for the 100th time tonite. Pay no attention to the Jumbotron."
OU is a folly outside of OK. Period.
Another outsider paul wrote, "no wonder Oklahoma is a laughing stock, both as a football team and as a state to the rest of the country".
This is not trash talk...this is truth, but you do not wish to hear it.
Either you are stuck and NOT trying to get out of a hole, or you are stuck and ARE trying to get out of the hole. But Oklahomans sharing rhetorical comments of how pretty the hole is does nothing.
Why don't you make some "NOISE" and ask for roadside assistance.
gary, naples - Jan 4, 2008 at 2:04 pm
I just want to comment on the latest debacle in the Fiesta Bowl. I am loyal Sooner in the military and living in Florida. I don't think that Stoops should be fired, but I think that the AD should give him a choice. Either he fires his offesive and defensivie coordinators or he goes. OU's defense had been horrible since the day after Mike Stoops left. I have been saying this for the past 4 years to everyone that I meet, "Brent Venables is an absolute retard when it comes to defense." His players are out of position, can't cover wide receivers, and tackle very poorly. Look at what Georgia's defense did to Hawaii. They kept the receivers in front of them and tackled very well. I mean, thank goodness OU didn't have to play Hawaii and once again lose to a team that didn't deserve a BCS bowl. As for the offense, Kevin Wilson is an idiot too. Every game that the Sooners lost this year they didn't run the ball very well and the O-line got manhandled. How do you have an offensive line the averages 6'5" and 322 lbs in college football and you can't run the ball? In my opinion, there seems to be an auora about the Sooners that they think all they have to do is show up and teams will lay down. Well, when you are highly ranked every year, you will get every teams A-game. The Sooners will beat the tough teams, but it's the teams where they are highly favored that beat them. You can't play at the level of your opponent. Well, I hope that the Sooners at least had fun while they were in Arizona, because they sure didn't go there to play a game. So, from a very frustrated fan in Florida, for starters let's get rid of Brent "I am a retarded Defensive Coordinator" Venables and Kevin "I can't run the ball" Wilson.

I have a job in the military stateside too you yahoo! And trust me, I am protecting your freedoms. The media doesn't tell all the story. Believe what you want though, thats your right.

Hey Ryan, I have friends who are Vietnam Vets...I respect them and they acknowledge they were in a war that was based on lies and deceit...unfortunately you people in Iraq are fighting the same kind of war but think you're doing it for my "Freedoms"...sorry, but you're not.

I have had quite a chuckle reading how great the Sooners really are and how great Stoops really is and that anyone not on the Sooner bandwagon should appreciate the fact they made it to the BCS game well think about it that is why it is even worse to go like gang busters then flop when a good team and not some rollover team shows up if the Sooners are so great and the coach is so great why was their performance so bad ?
De, Terrell - Jan 4, 2008 at 9:19 am
Wow!!!! Now I know what the Vietnam vets felt like. Thats wrong dude! I hope your parents are proud. Geeeeeeez

Oh, and Ryan, you're not protecting my rights to do anything...Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, the only reason you're over there is because baby Bush wanted to finish what daddy started in 1990...don't use your stupid military logic on the educated people who post here. You've been lied to and now you're just another expendable government sheep.
Cletus, Mayberry - Jan 4, 2008 at 9:02 am
Easy Cletus, if you bite the hand that feeds you there will be no more welfare for you.

Cletus, Mayberry - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:55 am
OOHHHH, BURN. What kind of loser comments on their own diss? YOU GOT SERVED!!
John, McLoud - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:35 am
Tammieeeeyyy, did you ever stop to think that I misspelled your name b/c I could care less how you friggin spell it. You couldn't have forced me to go to OU, I avoid that cesspool (Norman) at all costs. Have a good day picking up cans.
John, McLoud - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:34 am
Uhhh no! Camp Anaconda is my location you scrub! Your so ignorant you looked right past my point. This whole country was pretty much stolen from Native Americans. Are we the "United States of Cheaters"? Read your history Paul; to prove you wrong even further, not all Sooners were illegal. Certain people were granted permission to stake their land ahead of time. Go read about it and let me know what you think. Also, Oklahoma is "The Sooner State". The name Sooner is a symbolic word for those pioneers who were looking for change to better themselves and their famlies. Kind of like going out and winning 7 National Championships. Kind of like going out and winning 41 Conference Championships....I can keep going if you would like. Oh by the way, "Ryan, Camp Anaconda - Iraq". Yes I am over here protecting your right to say ignorant crap on this blog.
ryan, ward - Jan 4, 2008 at 8:23 am
Note to Boob Stupids.....The trick plays like an unexpected onside kick that worked several years ago are no longer unexpected from you......coaches know to expect it so you just look...well....like a Boob when they blow up in your face.

paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 7:03 am
Yes,,but Ryan doesn't appear to be up on the history of his state..or of his ancestors....thieves then...losers now....
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 7:01 am
Ryan, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your beloved Sooners nickname came directly from the cheaters at the Land Run. The Sooners were the ones that snuck out in the night and staked their claims before the official start of the Run. Cheaters then and cheaters now.
Chris, Oklahoma City - Jan 4, 2008 at 6:58 am
It's OK Zero U fans.........there's always basket.....oh.s@#$......forget it.
Philip, Oklahoma City - Jan 4, 2008 at 6:54 am

To Gary in Naples...right on !! Land criminals..coat criminals....and a throng of adoring mindless fans who don't even stop to think they're cheering on a criminal mentality, with a criminal background....no wonder Oklahoma is a laughing stock, both as a football team and as a state to the rest of the country...mindless half wits who think land thieves are something to be idolized....I typed this slowly so you native Okies could better understand this message....
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 6:34 am
Most any of the east coast teams would CRUSH OU. The big 12, another division made up so all teams could have a chance to play in a bowl game...sorta like the way they've made school sports so no kid gets cut from the team...just create another division for them....boomer sooners...you suck!
paul, yukon - Jan 4, 2008 at 5:17 am
How do you make Aggie Cookies? Put them in a (stadium)bowl and beat them approximately 78 times!!!!
ryan, ward - Jan 4, 2008 at 4:14 am
Oh, and Kelly Ogle...your two cents was pathetic tonight..."If we had this player, if we had that player..". Crap in one hand and wish in the other, see what fills up first.
Cletus, Mayberry - Jan 4, 2008 at 3:54 am
Kansas proved last night who the better team in the Big 12 was...and at least they beat a team that was east coast. OU would have been demolished by Virginia Tech...
Cletus, Mayberry - Jan 4, 2008 at 3:54 am
Bill...regardless, this loosing BSC games on a regular basis is getting old
francisco, socal - Jan 4, 2008 at 1:37 am
I was pleased with the Big XII football teams in the bowk games except for OU and Colorado. There is no way West Virginia should have beat OU. Last year, there was no way Boise State should have beat OU. However, there are over 120 division 1 schools that would have been very happy with an 11-3 record. I am an OSU fan, but I think Stoops should be congratulated, not criticized for his record at OU.

There are real problems in Norman. This is the 4th bowl game that the Sooners have shown up unprepared - from players slipping and sliding all over the field from having the wrong cleats to no passion. I guess the players just thought all they had to do was walk out and WV would just lay down and give up. Well that sure didn't happen. Bob Stoops needs to take a real hard look at his preparation for bowl games - from the end of the last regular season game till the opening kick off because what he has been doing lately sure isn't working. There is a problem with academic qualification monitoring, off the field problems and what appears to be a lack of motivation. When your best receiver does not show up for 2 straight bowl games it is time to have a heart to heart with the young man and let him know that he can be replaced and maybe he needs to think about going to Slippery Rock for the rest of his college career. A few sets of "Stadium Steps" might start to motivate some of these young heroes.

Gary from Napels, do I sense abandonment sometime in your childhood or perhaps abused? You couldn't say enough about our Sooners could ya? Do you feel better now that all those letters are out of your little possum head? Sure must have been uncomfortable to have all them words stored in there! You did make it entertaining though to read your babble, you must have at one time liked our team or you would not give a rats ass about our loss.

Is this a great state or what....Goooo OU.........by the way to Cletus of Mayberry, my God man is this all you do is sit at your computer and write on every topic known to man? Get a life already.
