There were even a couple of tornado warnings in southern Oklahoma, that expired without incidence.
Morning storms that brought rain to central Oklahoma were followed at midafternoon by stronger activity, resulting in brief, heavy rain, loud thunder and frequent lightning flashes.
Other areas recorded high amounts quickly, such as at the Mesonet station near Freedom, which recorded 4 inches of rain by midmorning. More than 3 inches fell in Woodward and at least 2 inches was reported at various Mesonet stations in that area.
Strong activity during the afternoon resulted in the National Weather Service issuing storm warnings in southern Oklahoma.
Forecasters say conditions are likely to be better during the weekend.
