Storms possible Wednesday night, and another freeze watch ahead in Oklahoma

Storms are possible Wednesday night in central Oklahoma. Parts of Oklahoma will be under a freeze watch for late Thursday and early Friday.

A sunny, warm Wednesday with gusty winds will turn much colder with chances for storms in the evening, the National Weather Service reports.

Central and western parts of the state will be under a freeze watch for late Thursday and early Friday.

Winds will gust up to 33 mph in central Oklahoma Wednesday with a high near 80 degrees before a drastic drop in temperature as a cold front sweeps across the plains from the Rocky Mountains. Temperatures in central Oklahoma will drop to around 38 degrees early Thursday.

There is a 60 percent chance of rain Thursday and a high temperature in the low 40s. Temperatures will drop in central Oklahoma to around 33 degrees early Friday.

The Oklahoma City forecast is as follows.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after 4 p.m. Mostly sunny with a high near 79. South, southeast wind 9 to 16 mph becoming east in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

Wednesday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy with a low around 38. Wind with a north wind 18 to 26 mph with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Thursday: Rain likely. Cloudy with a high near 42. Windy with a north wind 21 to 31 mph with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
