NORMAN — Rashod Favors uses his brain well in his high school's engineering program.
He used it to play both safety positions in high school. He needed it again when he moved to linebacker and then defensive end, knowing his collegiate home would be closer to the line of scrimmage.
"Strong, strong-minded," said Todd Lawson, his high school coach at Dunbar in Fort Worth, Texas. "He's well-rounded."
A quick look at his background on and off the field reveals that, and Favors plans on continuing his engineering studies at OU.
Favors is listed at 6-2 and 215 pounds, but Lawson says he's up to 240 now and can still deliver his 4.5 40-yard dash time.
Lawson made sure Favors was comfortable using his speed in space to defend the spread offenses he saw in high school, and will continue to see in the Big 12.
"He's not a guy you can run away from," Lawson said. "He's going to make tackles from sideline to sideline."
