TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — March is living up to its reputation as wicked winds whip across New Jersey, making a blast of Arctic air feel colder.

A wind advisory is in effect for parts of the state.

West to northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph can pack gusts up to 45 mph, making it feel like single digits.

The wind is blamed for partially ripping the roof off a Bed, Bath & Beyond store at a strip mall in Mount Olive. Police say the fire department extinguished a gas line that ignited as a result.

Officials say the wind caused a Conrail overhead wire pole to lean over the tracks near the PATH Journal Square station, suspending service between Jersey City and Newark.

The winds are expected to diminish Thursday afternoon and evening.
