The sheriff says Jerrod Murray, who is also an ECU student, has been arrested on a first-degree murder complaint in the death.

An affidavit alleges that Murray told investigators that he “wanted to go kill somebody.”

A local newspaper reports that authorities arrested Murray while he was walking on U.S. 177 shortly after the shooting. The affidavit claims that Murray targeted Sanchez because he “didn't have many friends.”

Murray remains jailed. Authorities did not know if he had an attorney.
