The students were chosen for the competition based on an exam taken during the school year.

The American Society for Mathematics, an Oklahoma City-based group, oversaw the event, which included challenges in trigonometry, calculus, logic and statistics.

Among the top competitors was Lawton High School sophomore Ryan Yuyueyongwatana, 15, who took third place based on accumulated points for the two-day competition.

Yuyueyongwatana moved up during the group competition Sunday due to his ability to engage the rest of the team in problem-solving, Richard Neal, competition director, said.
