Brand Finance has released its list of the most valuable brands in the United States, with two oil and natural gas companies leading the way for Oklahoma.
The list includes 500 companies, each with brands worth more than $1 billion.
Apple topped the list with a valuation of $105 billion. It is the first company to top the $100 billion threshold, making it more valuable than the total of 44 states.
Oklahoma’s top brand is Devon Energy Corp. at $1.6 billion, according to the study.
Chesapeake Energy Corp. was the other state company on the list, with a valuation of $1.5 billion.
Based on only those two companies, Oklahoma’s brand value is among the lowest in the nation, according to the study. It surpasses only Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, the District of Columbia, New Hampshire and Alabama.
The study found that there are 519 billion-dollar brands in the U.S. out of about 15,000 listed companies.
Technology accounts for more than 20 percent of the country’s brand value, led by companies like Apple, Google and Intel. The oil and gas sector accounts for only 3.5 percent.
The top oil and gas brand in the study was ExxonMobil, which ranked 30th with a value of $17 billion.
