Subjects missing from gun database

Gun dealers are required to check a national database when someone applies to purchase a firearm.

A group called the Mayors Against Illegal Guns reported November after a study that the database is missing millions of records that would identify the seriously mentally ill and drug abusers as being prohibited from purchasing guns. The study blamed “lax reporting by state agencies.”

Oklahoma ranked 42nd in the study in the number of mental health records submitted to the database per 100,000 residents. has disabled the comments for this article.
