TESTIFYING NEXT WEEK: Former News of the World editor and Rupert Murdoch lieutenant Rebekah Brooks will appear at Britain's media ethics inquiry.

WHO SHE IS: Brooks is one of the central figures in the scandal over tabloid phone hacking that is shaking the country and Murdoch's News Corp. Brooks resigned in July as head of Murdoch's British newspaper operation.

ABOUT THE APPEARANCE: It's scheduled for May 11. She is likely to be asked about her business and personal ties to senior police officers and politicians, including Prime Minister David Cameron.
