Super 30: Guthrie's Kentrell Brothers takes every road traveled

Linebacker has been on one trip after another this summer

— There is busy, and then there is "Kentrell Brothers busy." You'll have to forgive the Guthrie defensive star and wide receiver if he doesn't want to spend a little time at home.

Since school let out, it's been one camp or campus visit after another. He said he's thankful for all the opportunities, but even a teenager needs time to breathe.

It started in his sophomore season when coach Rafe Watkins put together some film to send to Missouri.

The Tigers liked what they saw so much that they were hoping Guthrie would not send any more film of Brothers to anyone else.

That didn't happen, and word has spread quickly about how talented the Bluejays star is.

"He plays so hard on every snap. He doesn't take one off," Watkins said. "I don't know if he ever gets tired. We use him wherever we can."

Last year's stats certainly back up what Watkins thinks of Brothers. And Watkins isn't alone in that sentiment. It's one reason why Brothers is No. 5 on The Oklahoman's list of the top 30 football recruits for 2011.

If Brothers wasn't such a highly prized linebacker, we might be talking about him being one of the best receivers around.

He had more than 1,100 yards receiving last year with 12 touchdowns. But his defensive numbers put him in a different class with 95 tackles, 17 sacks and four interceptions.

Missouri became the first school to offer a scholarship to Brothers after last season, and then Duke and several others followed. The action picked back up this summer, and Brothers now has 15 offers.
