Kevonte Richardson knows about pressure.

As a freshman, Richardson was thrust into the spotlight after Millwood's starting quarterback went down in the Falcons' annual rivalry game against Douglass.

Richardson was called on to replace the injured Millwood quarterback.

"He was kind of scared," said teammate Josh Turner, who was also a freshman that year. "You could tell he was a freshman."

But Turner has plenty to add about his long-term teammate after that.

"As the years progressed, he grew up," Turner said. "He's a man now. He took all that responsibility that was thrown on him his freshman year and turned it into a positive."

Now, Richardson and Turner are Millwood's veteran leaders, having filled the gaps after a group that included Gerald Jones, Tramain Swindall and Gil Roberts departed with a state title the year before Richardson and Turner's group started.

And while Turner, who recently committed to Texas, has been making a lot of the recruiting buzz for Millwood lately, it was Richardson who started it all for this group.

Richardson has been on the radars of Division-I teams for four years, drawing his first offer just a handful of weeks after nervously entering the Soul Bowl.

And even though that attention came early, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Richardson tries to make sure he doesn't take it for granted.

He's seemed to do a solid job with that, adding offers from Missouri, Colorado, Kansas and Arizona among others since that first offer came from UNLV.

"There's no letdown," Richardson said. "I have to keep working hard. Everyday in the weight room, I have to keep working hard to keep getting bigger and stronger."
