LAWTON — Every Lawton football player is pumped up for the season to begin. With all the talent on both sides of the ball, this is the year the Wolverines have been waiting for.

Recruiting experts will debate which one of their several Division I-caliber players are the best, but there is no doubting who anchors the bunch.

Quarterback Cody Miller.

"We have all the trust in the world in him,” senior Tyrequek Zimmerman said. "We know he can get the job done.”

It's never been a question about his physical gifts, but when you combine that with how he has matured, there is little argument Miller deserves to be ranked No. 15 on The Oklahoman's top 30 recruits.

In an era where the dual-threat quarterback has become the norm, Miller is a throwback.

He's not afraid to tuck it and run, but Miller is one of the more natural quarterbacks not only in the state but in the country. has Miller as the No. 16 pro style QB recruit.

"He hit that growth spurt and has come a long way when it comes to the mental part of the game,” coach Randy Breeze said. "But definitely the biggest difference with him has been his accuracy — he's phenomenal now.”

Miller threw for 1,922 yards and 19 touchdowns while also rushing for 10 more scores as Lawton reached the Class 6A quarterfinals.

His 6-foot-4 frame has caught the eye of scouts.
