Mejia has more than nastiness in his arsenal. He also has a will to push past his faults, which are physical limits.

Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 280 pounds, those physical limits seem to be next to nil. And it seemed so, during his freshman year at Union, until he blew out his knee.

Mejia tore his left anterior cruciate ligament during the first game. He could have given up football.

But there's no quit in him, and Mejia spent four months rehabbing his knee. By spring football, he was cleared to practice.

Fridrich was happy to have him back after hearing tales of his prowess on the field from one of his assistant coaches.

“I remember our freshman coach saying, ‘He is the best lineman we had, and we only got to play one game with him,'” Fridrich said.

“Blake, for us, just kind of sets the tone on the offensive line. He plays with a lot of energy and aggressive play.”
