Super 30: Tulsa Union's Blake Mejia always wanted to push others around

Mejia, 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds, is a big weapon for Tulsa Union, especially in the run game.

As early as elementary school, Blake Mejia said he knew he wanted push other boys around.

He wanted to force them to move from one destination to another. A boy like that is bound to become an offensive lineman.

So it was with Tulsa Union guard Mejia.

Chris Hall, Tulsa Union's H-back, is close enough with Mejia that he's allowed to call him by his first name. But not so close that he'd be willing take on Mejia in the Okie drill.

“He's very strong,” Hall said. “Get the job done, and get the job done right. He's gonna try to get the job done and get it done to the best of his abilities.”

Mejia loves to roll up defenders, knock another guy on his rear end. It's why he loves the game.

“I just like to finish blocks — put another guy on his back,” he said. “I just enjoy it.”

His ability to lead the attack in the run-game is one of the many reasons Union coach Kirk Fridrich started him at guard for the Redskins' Class 6A state championship run last season.

“You love to have an offensive lineman who will play a little bit nasty and isn't afraid to play with a little bit of aggressiveness,” Fridich said.
