BARTLESVILLE — A suspicious package thought to be a possible bomb found at Bartlesville High School parking lot on Tuesday prompted authorities to block off area streets, evacuate homes and cancel many sports activities planned for the morning.
The device was taken to Tulsa for analysis and it wasn’t immediately clear if it could have caused harm.
Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland said a high school employee called authorities around 8:30 a.m. after discovering the package on the back of a truck parked in a lot near the tennis courts. Police and fire crews arrived on the scene, followed by emergency management officials and Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s bomb squad.
