SW Ind. county keeps travel restrictions in place
PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) — A southwestern Indiana county is keeping its state of emergency from this week's winter storm in place for another day.
Gibson County is the only one in the state still under a travel warning following Wednesday's storm that dumped up to a foot of snow in southern and central Indiana. About 10 counties are still asking residents to only make essential trips.
Gibson County highway superintendent Jerry Heldt tells the Princeton Daily Clarion (http://bit.ly/UceSWZ) he's hired six private contractors to assist his department's 11 plow trucks in clearing the 1,200 miles of roadway in the county just north of Evansville.
Gibson County plans to lift travel restrictions Saturday night, although the weather service forecasts up to 3 inches of fresh snowfall there by Saturday morning.
