CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has hired Keith Gilmore as its defensive line coach.

Gilmore had spent the past four seasons in the same position at Illinois. Two of those seasons came under UNC's associate head coach for defense Vic Koenning while Koenning was defensive coordinator for the Illini. Tar Heels defensive coordinator Dan Disch also worked with Gilmore at Illinois in 2009 and 2010.

Gilmore worked as an assistant at Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Howard, Norfolk State, Eastern Michigan, Wayne State, Grand Valley State and Northern Michigan. He also served as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in 1988.

Gilmore replaces Deke Adams, who left for South Carolina after the season.
