HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut lawmakers are set to announce a task force for a clean energy research and development facility on the campus of the former Norwich State Hospital in Preston and Norwich.
House Speaker Brendan Sharkey is scheduled to join Democratic Rep. Timothy Bowles at a news conference at the Capitol on Monday. Clean energy advocates and lawmakers from both parties are expected to attend.
A psychiatric hospital on the site closed in 1996, and Preston residents voted in 2009 to buy a large section of the vacant land.
Bowles, who is also a selectman in Preston, requested in January to establish the task force to investigate whether the site can be used as a clean energy research and development center. A report is due to the state legislature early next year.
